from Diane Jenkins:
The
Amy St. Laurent Foundation was established in memory of my late daughter
who died tragically in 2001 at the age of twenty five. Amy was missing
for eight weeks and was found brutally beaten and murdered by a gunshot
to the back of the head, the victim of a probable sexual assault. It
was at the time I realized we would never see Amy again that I knew
something had to be done to try and help keep others from experiencing
the horror Amy went through. It was at this time the Foundation came
into being.
The
Amy St. Laurent Foundation is dedicated to the prevention of violence
against vulnerable individuals, particularly women and children. The
main focus to date has been offering personal safety and self-defense
courses for women through the R.A.D System. The Foundation is currently
working on establishing the funding for equipment to implement the RAD
Kids program. All instructors are certified volunteers who give generously
their time and spirit to make the program work. Funding programs to
help keep vulnerable individuals safer will always be the central focus
of the Foundation.
In
the future, when funding allows, it is the Foundation's mission to serve
as an educational resource during a time of personal crisis, such as
rape, abuse, missing person or murder. Also to offer endowments for
individuals seeking college or post-graduate educations in criminology,
forensic or psychological studies based in antisocial behavior that
will contribute to the future reduction of violence or to help provide
the experts and expertise needed for successful prosecution.
